Chapter 1.5

Here Charles wants you to work on grouping together objects and painting them as a silhouette.  I could have rearranged the objects to overlap a bit here, but was pleased with the result. When painting one tends to want to paint the tiny details instead of looking at the shapes.  We take the values studies from the last few exercises and implement them here as well, but this is about grouping objects. Chapter 1.4

In this exercise Charles is working on changing the direction of light on your objects or still life setup.  By working with values that bring across the closeness or distance from your light source...trying to work with three values on each subject.  Wow, this exercise laid out alot of what I have been trying to teach myself through just painting and not thinking.  You can really turn an object with as little as three values moving away from the light source...my favorite exercise thus far.Read more …
